Senior Software Developer – Ref SIG1625
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute uses large-scale sequencing, informatics and analysis of genetic variation to understand gene function in health and disease and to generate resources of lasting value. The Production Software team aims to produce high quality informatics tools in support of the Institute’s high profile sequencing projects.

A position is available for an experienced software developer to work along side a talented team building web based tools for our next generation research platforms. This post will involve working closely with collaborators on high-level system and database design, as well as hands-on development.

The ideal candidates will have proven experience in the full life- cycle of extremely high quality, scalable web applications, preferably in a scientific field. A keen eye for detail will be augmented with an excellent working knowledge of object-oriented design and a flexible approach to development.

A strong background in development and relational databases is essential with knowledge of Ruby, Rails, Javascript and version control a definite advantage. Knowledge of user experience design would be welcome.

Excellent time management and communication skills are required, as is a keen interest in emerging technology.

Salary range is £27,316 to £36,951 dependent on experience.

Software Developer – Ref SIG1626

A position is available for a software developer to work along side a talented team building web based tools for our next generation genotyping platform. This post will involve working on laboratory information, asset and content management.

The ideal candidates will have proven experience developing web applications. A keen eye for detail will be augmented with a flexible approach to development. Experience with HTML is essential. Some knowledge of Rails, and an active interest in biology would be a definite advantage.

Excellent time management and communication skills are required.

This position is for a fixed-term of 2 years and salary range is £21,115 to £27,450.
