We are building a revolutionary (and really cool) online education platform with a growing customer wait list for our products. Management has deep domain expertise in technology and eLearning, and the markets we’re pursuing are larger than those of software and search combined. Knewton is backed by some of the best venture funds and angel investors in the business.
We’re looking for a really smart web developer to define, code, build, test and deploy web-based software systems. Execute end-to-end system construction from HTML to back-end services and SQL.
You must be highly capable, and willing to move fluidly between different roles as the need arises. Some days you will need to analyze writing requirements; other days, you will solve intense technical problems in code.
You should take pride both in the details of the code produced and the final result. Your comments should read like a user’s manual and your code should be as simple and elegant as sheet music. You must ruthlessly validate your code through unit and functional testing before you hand it off. You must strive for total empathy with the user; there are no stupid users, only overly-complicated, poorly designed user interfaces. And most importantly, you need to be prepared to have a ridiculous amount of fun building these systems with the team.
You must have a combination of the following skills for consideration as a Knewton Web Developer: Web Front-End Skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, PHP, Rails and/or Flash) along with some application development skills (Python, Perl, Ruby, C++, or Java)
You need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ideally, you’d have a BS or MS in Computer Science, but one is not required.
