Web Designer (with Aspirations) at The Open Planning Project (New York, NY 10014)

The Open Planning Project is a non-profit connecting technology with social change. Our work is defining a new era of advocacy and community activism. We are seeking a talented web designer to join our tight-knit design team. You will build intuitive, reliable (and beautiful) interfaces for tools that people really use.

The design team works on all of our projects, most notably OpenPlans. OpenPlans.org is a community network and a toolbox for social change. OpenPlans makes it easier to get involved and get moving. OpenPlans has wikis, blogs, task management, and communication tools, with more on the way.

You

- Are a passionate web designer with strong design sense and a bulletproof toolbox including (X)HTML, CSS, Javascript, and design tools like Photoshop & Illustrator. Your CSS is a thing of beauty, and your sites degrade gracefully.
- Are self-motivated and self-organizing, but also keen to work in a small, smart team.
- Can pick up a mockup and make it real.
- Love testing, revising, and fixing until the product shines.
- Care about semantic markup, web standards, usability, and work that matters.

Knowledge of microformats and other emerging standards, a big plus.

We Offer

Competitive salary and great benefits (all the basics, plus five weeks of vacation and we pay for lunch). A start-up feel, great co-workers, and a beautiful West Village office. A chance to make an impact in a small, growing place. Real work-life balance. An agile environment, and projects that really need to scale. Most importantly, we offer a challenge: to build tools that have the potential to change the status quo.
