Waterloo/Deep Blue vs. Kasparov 1997… Developers with C++/Java at www.amazon.com (Seattle, WA 98104)

Senior Developers needed for Digital Distribution of Software and Video Games at Amazon

Snail mail has high bandwidth but for software an almost unforgivable latency – this is the digital era and there’s just no point putting bits on atoms and then shipping those atoms across the country or the world. Changing this fundamentally and permanently for customers who care is our mission, our passion, our Waterloo, our Deep Blue vs. Kasparov 1997 game six for the epic win. Amazon, no, our digital software and videogame team at Amazon, is going down in history for this and if you’re as motivated as we are, with 3-5+ years professional C++ and Java experience, a handful of [Perl, Javascript, HTML, etc. etc.], then you have the chance to be there when it happens, to be instrumental to it happening, to tell [your, someone else’s] grandkids “We did that. We changed the world.”

It’s not an easy thing, so you’ll need deep technical knowledge and intuition, along with an urgently honed or innate sense of customer need and of persuading and working with others and of getting the right stuff done.

In a nutshell: it’s a big cool complex problem with a lot of moving parts. If you can deal, if it appeals, go for it.
