Position Summary: Message Level is looking for an experienced technical leader to build its technical team and bring the product to market. This is a great opportunity to get involved in an early stage, well funded startup and to build a world-class team to compete in this market. We are looking for a person with the experience of building a core systems technology team, and who has built and shipped high-scale internet or telecommunications products or services.
The Position
The Vice President of Technology will be responsible for designing, developing and shipping Message Level’s product. This position will also be responsible for network operations. The position will report to the CEO.
Responsibilities
• Lead the development of a very high-throughput email transaction processing system
• Build and manage the technology team as it expands to 10+ over the next 2 years
• Lead your team through all aspects of the software life cycle from concept, architecture and design; through development, release and support
• Build and manage an automated QA team
• Provide technical direction and guidance as well as hands-on team leadership for all product development activities
• Define and lead development culture and processes
• Manage outsourced development and development partnerships
• Be responsible for technology operations including major customer installations, data center outsourcing, OEM and VAR relationships, and other technology activities related to customer acquisition, support, and reliable network operations
• Participate in budgeting, staffing, and strategic planning with the management team
Requirements
• 4+ years experience managing small to medium sized development teams
• Proven experience in releasing software products or services
• 10+ years of hand-on software development experience in high-volume transaction systems
• Development experience with C/C++
• Strong knowledge of system internals
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and services architecture
• Experience with current development best practices
• Strong experience with complex networks and high-volume database applications
• Extensive experience building, supporting, and troubleshooting multi-tier, high-volume, web installations including strong knowledge of Unix/Linux scripting and configuration
• BS, MS or other engineering or technical degree or equivalent experience
Highly Desirable
• Experience working with and customizing e-mail systems, particularly Sendmail
• Strong knowledge of MySQL and other Open Source technologies
• Knowledge of web-based applications such as C# .Net, PHP , etc.
• Email client knowledge (e.g. Outlook, Thunderbird)
• Experience in start-up settings
