Visual Design Consultant at Cooper Software, Inc. in San Francisco

Cooper (www.cooper.com) is actively recruiting for Visual Design stars. We work with clients large and small all over the world. Our projects include everything from complex financial, analytical and enterprise applications to medical devices, Web sites and car dashboards. In a single year, a Cooper designer might work on a securities trading application, an assisted surgery tool, and a revolutionary new phone.

What’s it like to work on a Cooper project? Every project involves a small team of world-class designers, most of whom are dedicated to single project at a time. An interaction designer is responsible for the visualization and coherence of the product’s behavior, while a design communicator is responsible for documenting the design and for helping test and evolve the design concept through scenarios. At the same time, a visual designer ensures that the color, icons, typography, and visual style of the interface support the interaction and the client’s brand.
Visual designers collaborate with interaction designers, industrial designers, usability practitioners and engagement leads, contributing a visual and brand perspective throughout the lifecycle of the product definition, design and documentation process. To succeed, Cooper visual designers must be experts in the areas of graphic design, user interface design, information design, visual systems design and documentation, as well as client-side technologies, specific to their influence over Graphical User Interfaces.
Cooper’s visual design consultants are seasoned veterans, who can present design strategy as successfully as they can push pixels. They are ultimately responsible for designing comprehensive visual systems that support and clarify the behavior of complex digital products, resulting in a compelling user experience that builds brand equity for our clients.
We’re looking for smart, collaborative, pragmatic consultants who are all about solving challenging visual design problems. We’re not looking for engineers, tool jockeys, animators, illustrators, print designers, or fine artists.
Qualified applicants will possess the following:
• BA in Graphic Design or related experience
• 3-5+ years experience with interactive design, preferably having experience with a leading design consulting firm focused on user experience

• Excellent oral, written, and visual communication and presentation skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to foster client relationships.

• Solid understanding of practical benefits and limitations of client-side technologies and development environments (Flash, Java, DHTML, .NET, J2EE, etc.)
• Tool Mastery, e.g., Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver etc.
