USC’s Information Technology Services, Department of Web Services is seeking a Web Developer to join its team.
Job Accountabilities:
• Designs, develops and implements complex computer systems, programs and applications. Defines system scope and objectives. Interfaces with users to identify and develop system requirements taking into account desired results,hardware limitations and operating requirements. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written and/or modified.
• Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains complex programs and
applications.
• Collaborates with web designers and other project team members to gather user project requirements and create innovative, interactive solutions to meet these.
• Programs web page templates, client side database interaction and other web-based user interfaces using basic and advance HTML capabilities, CSS, XML/XSL, Javascript, PHP, Contribute, Movable Type and other software tools as appropriate. Develops web pages that comply with the latest web accessibility standards. Develops and tests code necessary to accommodate various web browsers.
• Prepares general and detailed flow charts for large and complex programming
systems.
• Prepares system and programming documentation for users and other programmers in accordance with internal and external standards. Trains users and programmers as required.
• Develops test data, revisions and routines required for program check-out and revision. Ensures procedures are thoroughly tested before release. Writes reports of test results. Detects, defines and debugs programs whenever problems arise.
• Reviews the work of other programmers as requested. Gives guidance and assistance as needed.
• Stays informed of advances in field and pertinent changes in hardware and software technology. Reads journals and other relevant publications, interacts with vendors, and attends professional meetings and seminars as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. 3 years of experience programming web-based user interfaces for websites using a variety of common web development tools. Skilled in using structured web design and development processes. Competent to work independently on complex programming activities.
Combined education/experience may substitute for minimum education/experience.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. 5 years experience. Very strong skills in HTML, DHTML, CSS, Advanced Javascript including JSON, AJAX and DOM Scripting are required. PHP/MYSQL programming experience in a UNIX environment is also required. Some experience with graphic design is desirable. Willing and able to master new web software tools and techniques quickly. Strong understanding of and experience with implementing Web 2.0 and community approaches to creating web presences.
