USC’s Information Technology Services, Department of Web Services, is seeking a Senior Web Designer to join its team.

Leads web design and development projects. Leads creation of USC-wide standards for web graphic design, data exchange formats and processes, accessibility design, and technical web page coding and scripting. Evaluates and determines best uses of new collaborative and design technologies. Designs and develops web sites for a wide variety of USC web projects. Provides leadership and training to more junior web designers and developers in ITS and across USC

Job Accountabilities:

1. Analyzes user requirements and designs web sites designs on requirements and established standards at USC. Develops information and navigation architectures, visual designs, interaction designs, and approaches to maintain accessibility according to current standards. Creates and codes web designs that deliver effective and innovative integrations of design and technical functionality in the light of technical capabilities and constraints.

2. Leads web design and development projects. Provides expert leadership and problem solving advice for web designers and developers across USC.

3. Leads development of standards for graphic design, interaction design data exchange, web page coding and web accessibility.

4. Leads assessments of emerging web design, interaction design, coding, data exchange and collaboration technologies and recommends best practices for the use of each.

5. Masters new web technologies and best practices quickly and applies them innovatively on web projects.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years relevant work experience designing and coding web sites using a variety of software tools including content management systems and blogging systems. Experience managing web design projects preferred. Experience developing both server side as well as client side components of web applications preferred.

Combined experience/education may substitute for minimum education.
Preferred Qualifications 7 years experience.

Must have high level of expertise and experience using HTML, CSS, DHTML, Advanced Javascript, XML, AJAX, Photoshop, Illustrator and other web design and web development tools. Must be up to date on the latest and best practices in web graphic design, user interface design, information architecture, web accessibility standards and implementation techniques, and web page technical design and coding. Must be able to identify valuable new technical tools and learn them quickly. Must have a strong understanding of and experience with implementing Web 2.0 and community approaches to creating web presences. Experience with server side programming tools such as PHP and MYSQL in a UNIX environment also highly desirable.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Expert customer consulting skills required. Must be comfortable and effective working in a highly collaborative and agile project team environment.
