Academic Technology and Extended Learning (ATEL) has an opening for a full-time Web Developer. ATEL is an academic service and support unit located on the Downtown Denver Campus, and includes University Web Services.
We are seeking a client side web developer to provide academic support, including design and development of department and campus websites from start to finish, and provide technical support as needed. In this environment, the Web Developer will work directly with our development team, senior staff, and external clients using XHTML, CSS, some JavaScript, and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server. This position is initially funded through August 2010 – continuation is contingent upon future project funding.
Job Responsibilities:
Initial academic web support responsibilities include researching, developing, implementing and maintaining department and campus websites including but not limited to academic services websites, school and college websites, department websites, marketing campaign micro sites, student services applications and portal related projects. Most websites will be developed in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) web content management system.
Required Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor’s degree in a computer, information or visual design field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• One year experience designing and building web sites in a higher education, or corporate, environment.
• Proficiency in using front-end development tools such as Dreamweaver, SharePoint Designer, Expression, etc.
• Proficiency in a graphics editing tools such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, or Fireworks.
• Very strong understanding of CSS1 and CSS2 including the ability to separate content from presentation and behavior (layout without using tables).
• Thorough understanding of W3C web design guidelines and Section 508/WAI accessibility issues.
• Excellent understanding of user-centered design, user interface design and a strong instinct for usability.
• Solid understanding of browser compatibility issues, site architecture best practices, and various standards applicable to Web authoring.
• Strong English written/verbal communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Two years experience designing and building web sites in a higher education, corporate, or ecommerce environment.
• Experience developing web sites on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server.
