Academic Technology and Extended Learning (ATEL) has an opening for a full-time Web Application Developer. ATEL is an academic service and support unit located on the Downtown Denver Campus.

We are embarking on several exciting academic support projects that implement web-based technologies. In this environment, the Web Application Developer will provide support for application and database design, security, development, deployment and documentation. The Web Application Developer will work closely with creative/graphic design, copywriting, multimedia/video, and marketing personnel in spirited, cooperative, and participatory surroundings.

Job Responsibilities:

Initial responsibilities include developing data-driven academic support websites, extending and modifying existing organizational Web Content Management System (CMS), and developing/integrating interactive web intranet/back office applications. These applications include Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, customer relationship management (CRM), marketing campaign analysis, web traffic analytics, business intelligence/competitor analysis, and academic program analysis solutions.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited College or University with a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Two years experience designing and building web applications in a higher education or corporate/ecommerce environment.

• Understanding of and experience with object-oriented design, database design principles, and 3 tiered application architecture.

• Proficiency in ASP.Net 2.0 application architecture, MS SQL 2000 (or greater).

• Solid understanding of browser compatibility issues, site architecture best practices, and various standards applicable to Web authoring.

• Able to function in a Windows server environment and a strong understanding of web servers, database servers and application server technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Thorough understanding of W3C web design guidelines and accessibility issues

• Experience in design, development, deployment and maintenance of Microsoft Content Management Server solutions and SharePoint Products & Technologies.

• Knowledge and experience with SharePoint customization using Site Definitions, SharePoint Templates and development of custom web parts.

• Familiarity with standards-compliant XHTML/HTML/DHTML/ Proficient in developing/debugging web applications.

• Familiar with SQL Server/TSQL/Stored Procedures/Triggers.

• Experience integrating web applications with external systems via XML, Web Services and/or API.

• Strong English written/verbal communication.

• Ability to write clear, maintainable, well-documented code.

• Strong interpersonal skills and tactfulness are a must.

• Able to work in a close team effort where ongoing collaboration among team members and various interconnecting projects is a must.

• Must be comfortable making design decisions independently as well as within a team framework.

• Must be a confident self-starter who possesses tenacity, curiosity, and a penchant for detail.

• Ability to learn new languages as technology evolves or strategy dictates.

• Ability to work with a number of programming languages and know which is appropriate for a particular task
