Digital User Analyst

Description: Under the direction of the Managing Director of the NYPL Labs, works closely with the NYPL Labs group to build and share an in depth understanding of the characteristics and needs of existing and potential users of NYPL’s Digital Presence. Leads the design, commissioning or undertaking, management, and initial analysis of qualitative research on digital NYPL users. Coordinates and analyzes quantitative traffic and other server statistics from heterogeneous systems. Works with library staff and volunteers to coordinate the effective and efficient roll out of research. Works with staff from across the library to understand evaluation needs and decide on/design suitable research tools. Collaborates with developers, user experience designers, and web producers to integrate findings into planning and design of future NYPL services. Designs and conducts small-scale in-house surveys on demand. Designs and runs in-house focus groups and in-depth user interviews. Responsible for contributing to an easily accessible and searchable central repository of qualitative information for staff to use on demand. Collaborates under the Synthesizes research findings and contributes recommendations to strategic discussions about the library’s future digital direction. Sources, commissions, and manages external research firms as necessary. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred. Successfully demonstrated knowledge of qualitative research methods and experience designing and deploying a variety of those techniques ‘in the field’, as well as quantitative analysis of server statistics and other user metrics. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with staff and patrons in diverse contexts throughout the organization. Demonstrated ability to listen and respond to project requirements as well as persuade library staff about the value of evaluation and analysis. Successfully demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and think creatively to achieve results within a limited budget.
