JOB TITLE: Technical Project Manager
LOCATION: Toronto
TEAM: Research and Development
REPORTS TO: Development Project Manager
JOB SUMMARY: The primary responsibility of the Technical Project Manager is to coordinate the activities and resources required to ensure on-time delivery of various software product development initiatives to meet determined technical specifications. These initiatives can include new products and product optimization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and ensure the successful execution of project plans as directed.
• Write and maintain scope documents, outline project timelines, and assess project resource requirements.
• Drive day-to-day project activities through the application of hands-on project management principles and methodologies.
• Work with project teams to identify project risks and come up with creative solutions to these and other project obstacles.
• Communicate detailed status, activities, and issues for each project to team members and the Development Project Manager.
• Assist with the reallocation of resources among teams to meet changing development needs.
• Work with the project team to conduct post-completion analysis and document recommendations, outstanding issues, and incomplete deliverables.
• Ensure thorough and accurate project documentation is completed, maintained, and organized.
• Work within the R&D department to continually improve the development process methodology.
OTHER JOB INFORMATION:
This is a hands-on position located in downtown Toronto that requires a diverse set of interpersonal and technical skills. Travel of up to 10% may be required.

• Strong interpersonal skills coupled with demonstrated verbal and written communication abilities.
• A genuine desire to see projects through to completion.
Knowledge and Technical Skills:
• Experience with MS Project or similar project management software is required.
• Experience with a wiki and/or other collaboration technology an asset.
• Working knowledge of use cases an asset.
• Knowledge of software development life cycles an asset.
• Knowledge and experience using Geosoft software an asset.
Education and Work Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or related discipline is required.
• Experience in a software development environment, with at least 2 to 3 years in a project management role is required.
• Formal project management training is preferred.
• A background in GIS or an earth-science discipline, such as geology, geophysics, geochemistry or geography an asset.
• Experience with Geosoft and/or the resource exploration industry is definitely an asset.
