Systems Administrator/Engineer - Silicon Valley
PopSample is building an online platform that will allow publishers, researchers, and advertisers to tap into the opinions, attitudes, and demographics of the collective audience of thousands of websites.
We’re a pre-launch startup backed by a top tier VC firm.
This position is in Silicon Valley, but we also have an office in Toronto, Canada.
The area: Operations and Engineering
PopSample’s operations team administers the systems, services, and applications that make up the PopSample technology platform. We don’t subscribe to any particular software, operating system, or language religion, but we like Python, Linux, Solaris, OS X, MySQL, and Apache.
PopSample’s engineering team designs, builds, and maintains the PopSample technology platform. Our projects include working on advanced information-analysis and control system algorithms, massive scalability and storage solutions, and rich, interactive user interfaces.
The role: Systems Administrator/Engineer
We’re looking for a seasoned Systems Administrator who’s not afraid to cut some code in between tuning MySQL and configuring a load balancer. We’re a small team, so you’ll have to be self-sufficient and knowledgeable enough to make systems and services recommendations, bring those systems and services up from scratch, and put support processes in place.
Requirements:
* Several years of experience administering large-scale internet software systems.
* Fluent in Linux, Solaris, OS X, MySQL, Apache, load balancing, storage systems. Extra points for Python, memcache, CDNs.
* Bachelors degree in computer science or mathematics, or equivalent experience.
* Deep familiarity and opinions on internet protocols, software deployment processes, systems monitoring, and scaling strategies.
