The StumbleUpon Technology:
StumbleUpon gives people a new way to discover relevant and entertaining content based on personal preferences and community recommendations. StumbleUpon’s Web browser plug-in lets users discover and rate Web pages, photos, videos, and news articles. These Web pages are typically presented when the user – known within the community as a "Stumbler"- clicks the "Stumble!" button on the browser’s toolbar. StumbleUpon chooses which new Web page to display based on the user’s ratings of previous pages, ratings by his/her friends, and by the ratings of users with similar interests. Over time, as users indicate whether or not they like each newly discovered Web site, the StumbleUpon engine learns personal content preferences to deliver increasingly relevant results. This content discovery approach also enables users to meet others with similar interests and media preferences.
About the Position:
StumbleUpon is looking for a multi-talented designer to join our team. As a member of the design team, you will work on all aspects of our design projects for key areas of the site such as Registration and Community content. Your contribution to projects will range from initial brainstorming to conceptual mockups to xhtml/css implementations for integrating your designs with the work of developers. There will also be occasional print projects, partner/promotional programs and other little projects that may come up. Please include a portfolio of your work with accompanying descriptions.
Responsibilities:
-Develop designs from conceptual mockups to XHTML/CSS
-Analyze, design, and specify the architecture for successful user experiences
-Develop process flows
-Create and communicate design deliverables
-Develop design concepts and suggest product direction based on design research and functional requirements
-Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to continuously give recommendations to improve and enhance usability
-Work closely with Product Development to develop user research and usability tests
Requirements:
-3-5 years experience designing and implementing user interfaces
-Expertise in XHTML, CSS and Photoshop; Javascript, PHP and Ajax a bonus
-Excellent and demonstrable web UI design skills including screen layouts, information design, and typography
-Strong Knowledge of current best practices and design patterns
-Strong collaborative skills for working closely with Product Development, Visual Designers, Usability Engineers, and others
-Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and manage your work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced, changing environment
-Ability to self-direct and manage time to meet milestones
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Bachelor’s or higher degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Visual Communications or related field
