Sr. / Principal Quality Software Engineer
Milford, CT (preferred) or Lowell, MA
Position Purpose: Develops/designs complex tests and advanced automated tests and improvements of development process to continually enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.
Position Responsibilities:
• Performs advanced testing tasks requiring advanced planning, scheduling and testing to assure that software products developed or being developed meet design specifications and quality standards.
• Identifies, analyzes and documents defects, questionable functions, errors and inconsistencies in software products, program functions, outputs, online screens and content.
• Assesses product/projects to analyze risks, costs and to make appropriate recommendations.
• Works with the development team to create advanced software procedures, methods, tests, and systems to ensure the highest degree of product assessment and continuous performance improvement.
• Analyzes and reports significant problems and tracks all problems and issues for resolution.
• Assists software engineers and other technical support personnel with installation or implementation problems.
• Responds to inquiries from users and technical support personnel concerning function and operations of software products or programs.
• Conducts advanced compatibility tests with other software products/programs, multiple operating systems and network environments.
• Monitors product/program performance after implementation to prevent recurrence of operating problems and to ensure efficiency of operation.
• Sets up experimental networks, including configuration of server’s hardware and software on client operating system to conduct advanced simulations and testing to ensure total customer satisfaction.
• May be responsible for training and/or supervising lower level quality engineers.
Scope/Level of Decision Making: Operates under minimal/general level of supervision and applies a complex level of knowledge in designing/developing functional test and automated tests as needed.
Knowledge/Skills/Experience: This is a highly skilled level position typically requiring 7-9 years of experience. Requires a minimum of a BS degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and knowledge of software testing packages, a specific knowledge of Windows NT/95/98 and proficiency in UNIX. Some knowledge working with web application servers like Tomcat, WebLogic, and WebSphere is a plus. Casual knowledge of databases like Oracle and DB2 is a plus. Some knowledge of C,C++,VB, Java, HTML, JavaScript is desired.
