Sony PlayStation: Senior Build Tools Engineer

SCEA’s Tools and Technologies Group (T&T) provides the infrastructure, tools and run-time libraries that are shared among all SCEA’s Next Gen. teams. We work closely with all our PlayStation 3 game teams and our online and graphics groups. T&T is divided into 3 groups: audio systems, web systems and game systems. We have an immediate need for a Staff level (above senior) Engineer, who will help maintain and enhance Imogen, an industry leading cross-platform distributed build technology used by T&T and game teams around the world. This engineer is also responsible for maintaining and perfecting the T&T automated release system.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Maintain and enhance Imogen, an industry leading cross-platform distributed build technology used by T&T and game teams around the world.
• Complete, maintain and perfect the T&T automated release system. This system is responsible for building, packaging, testing and publishing T&T SDK components.
• Training and support as time permits.
• Coordinate with other T&T release engineers to revise the release process and to guide new engineers on the process.

REQUIREMENTS:
This job requires top-notch engineering skills to meet the design and implementation challenges posed by a multi-threaded, distributed build system.
Careful attention to detail is required to make an automated release system that can ensure every T&T group release is as close to perfect as possible. The successful candidate will have excellent programming skills and a desire to work with a wide range of projects and programmers to ensure understanding and careful execution of a complex technical process, including the insight to improve the process.
• Multithreaded/Multiprocessor programming expert.
• 3+ years of professional programming experience or equivalent education.
• 2+ years of Java experience.
• Strong knowledge of Java, C++, and C. Experience with Ant, Make, Visual Studio and other build systems.
• Experience developing software on Windows and Linux (or other Unix) systems.
• Talented designer with a strong desire to create elegant, useful technology that delights users.
• Knowledge of scripting or interpreted languages and familiarity with automated testing techniques. C# experience is a plus.
• Must be capable of complex technical communications with the programmers and projects you are supporting.
• Must be self-directed, detail-oriented and have the ability to organize and schedule work effectively to meet critical deadlines.

PREFERRED:
• Experience with game development or console development.
• Japanese a plus.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work with a wide range of technical people under time pressure.
• Must be able to work in a professional office environment.
• Approximately 5-10% domestic travel.
• BA/BS or equivalent.
