As a member of the Solutions Performance and Data Architecture department, you will analyze the performance of solutions in a multitier SAS architecture, as well as provide analysis of software performance according to customer requirements. You will assume a leadership role in the performance projects, giving direction to involved contributors; assume a high-level role in performance projects and exercise good judgment as to methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria.
Your primary duties will include working with marketing staff to determine SAS solutions performance service levels; verifying performance of software is within expected service levels; performing analysis of SAS software as it performs with the SAS architecture; working with multiple operating systems and anticipating technical anomalies for various environments; developing software tools in support of performance analysis; ensuring that the software architecture is designed and developed with performance as a factor; designing and developing various prototypes to demonstrate principles of performance design; analyzing logs and profile monitoring tool output to determine performance bottlenecks; performing analysis using third-party monitoring tools; writing documentation of performance findings to be used by customers and also by marketing for field sales use; and writing source material for white papers and user documentation of R&D architecture with regard to performance.
Qualifications:
Essential -
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field with:
7 years of experience developing software, programming software, or testing software
Experience with application servers, particularly Jboss, WebLogic and WebSphere and the servers’ components with an understanding of how they impact scalability and performance
Equivalent Essential -
Associate’s degree in the same fields plus 9 years of the stated essential qualifications ~OR~
High school diploma (GED) plus 11 years of the stated essential qualifications
Additional -
A comprehensive understanding and appreciation of application servers, particularly WebLogic and WebSphere and their inherent components as they impact scalability and performance
Considerable knowledge of performance evaluation techniques and tools
Strong interpersonal, documentation, and problem-solving skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and with a team
Preferences -
Experience in analytical tools implemented to resolve memory issues in Java enterprise applications
An understanding of the Application Server (e.g. Thread throttling and JDBC pooling)
Ability to use Performance Analysis Tools inherent in the application server
Ability to understand Garbage Collection Patterns at JDK 5.0 across both Sun HotSpot and IBM VMs
An understanding of OS limitations and tunable parameters
The ability to design or recognize a good performance test (i.e. realistic use cases and think times)
Understanding of how different topologies impact performance in the middle-tier
Experience establishing clusters in WebLogic and Websphere
Knowledge of differences in classloading, JDBC, JMS etc. between the application server vendors
Understanding of different types of load balancing: random, minimum load, round-robin, weighted round-robin and performance based
Experience leading complex projects
