Used by millions each week, the BBC Weather Centre’s main website is consistently among the top five sites by usage on bbc.co.uk It includes a range of data-driven content such as forecasts and charts as well as features, community elements and educational and specialist content. The Feeds team also oversees weather content on WAP, promotional screens (aka out of home), CEEFAX and digital text platforms.
As a senior member of the team, you’ll have technical design and development responsibilities for all interactive output. You’ll ensure technical solutions meet requirements and integrate with other strategic software systems and components. You’ll provide consultancy on the technical aspects of interactive projects and advise team leaders and project and product managers on resources, timescales and costs.
You’ll need experience of the software development process, and development experience in some of these areas: object-oriented analysis, design and development, testing, scripting languages, relational database systems and high performance systems. You’ll also need in-depth knowledge of mod_Perl, Perl, HTML, XML, SQL, UNIX/Linux and Apache.
