Software Engineer 5

Reports To: Software Engineering Manager
Position Summary: Provides development and support of software products.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Designs, develops and tests software; creates software documentation; creates software architecture; and creates software policies and procedures.
2. Having broad expertise or unique knowledge, uses skills to contribute to development of company objectives and principles and to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. Barriers to entry such as technical committee review exist at this level.
3. Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles; exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results; contacts pertain to significant matters often involving coordination among groups.
4. Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new or special assignments; may supervise the activities of others.
5. Adheres to health, fire and safety regulations; identifies potential safety hazards and reports such to the Human Resources Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency in high-level programming language, such as C++, C# and assembly language on Linux and Windows platforms. Demonstrated skill in database programming on products such as SQL, Oracle or Informix. Demonstrated skill in scripting using Python, Perl, Bash or Ruby languages is a definite plus.
2. Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written form.
3. Ability to establish / maintain effective working relationships w/ customer, vendors, & fellow employees.
4. Ability to work in a drug-free environment and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
Desirable:
1. Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering; Masters or PhD. in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience highly desired.
2. Minimum 12+ years related experience.
3. Experience in software development in a manufacturing and support environment.
4. Experience with real time, embedded systems and motion control systems.
5. Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met and encountered by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, an employee is required to continuously use hands and fingers to feel and measure and to frequently reach above, below and at shoulder level. The employee must possess efficient means of communicating with others. Specific vision abilities required are close and color vision and depth perception. This is a sedentary job, which entails infrequent standing and walking on carpet and concrete floors with no exposure to hot or cold temperatures. The noise level in this environment is low.
