BACKGROUND
Comcast Interactive Media, “CIM”, is the division focused on growing the company’s online media business, a top priority for Comcast, by:
• Developing and acquiring compelling online businesses/products to drive profitable growth.
• Providing value-add features and services for Comcast cross-platform products to drive continued differentiation in the core business.
• Building a long-term, scalable, IP-based media delivery platform.
CIM currently manages:
• Comcast.net, the portal for Comcast’s broadband subscribers, and a leading internet site with over 15MM unique visitors per month (top 30), 3 Bn page views per month (top 10), and 65MM online videos streamed per month (top 15).
• Fandango, the leading online movie ticketing and entertainment destination with over 4MM UVs
• Ziddio, a multi-platform user-generated video site
• Game Invasion, a cutting-edge gaming destination recently launched to a nationwide audience
• thePlatform, a B2B content management service provider.
• …and many other new online businesses in development
Responsibilities: As a member of Comcast’s Interactive Media Engineering team the candidate will provide technical leadership and expertise within cross-functional project teams. Responsibilities range from high-level logical architecture through low-level detailed design and implementation, including:
- Individual and collaborative design of product capabilities and system infrastructure for the Interactive Media platform and associated product offerings
- Individual contributor responsible for the implementation and optimization of the platform and application software
- Technical leadership and the ability to mentor and advise less experienced team members
- Work closely with other software and QA engineers to build a quality product
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Minimum of three (3) years software development experience in Java
- Thorough knowledge of object-oriented design methodology and standard software design patterns
- Experience with XML syndication formats (RSS, Atom) and query technology (XPath, XQuery).
- Experience with Java application servers and J2EE containers (Weblogic, JBoss and Tomcat) and messaging architectures, including (JMS, SOAP, XML RPC)
- Experience developing with Major MVC frameworks and toolkits including STRUTS and Spring
- Experience consolidating and normalizing data across many data sources, specifically Internet data aggregation and metadata processing
- Experience with logical and physical database design: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, object data stores, rich media databases, LDAP and content management systems
- Experience with multi-threaded / concurrent programming environments
- Strong technical written and verbal communication in English
Additional Qualifications:
- UNIX background (Solaris/Linux)
- Experience with OSGi framework and Eclipse plugin development.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science required, Masters degree preferred
