Software Architect
OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced Software Architect with a passion for building innovative web experiences. In this role, you will help define the next generation of a platform that is already used by millions of people. You will be responsible for the refinement of a service-oriented architecture that will provide robust support for API access and serve as the core of our Open Social strategy. Through these efforts, you will help take our offering to mobile devices as well as enable new potential business opportunities.
This is a collaborative environment where we value the entrepreneurial spirit and cross-functional behavior. You will report directly to the Senior VP of Technology to establish the technical vision, work closely with product management and the user interaction team to help guide our product plan, and be primary developer in writing the code to implement the vision. This isn’t a fluffy architect position. We’ve still got a startup mentality and we want someone who isn’t afraid to get his or her hands dirty. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• 10+ years of professional Web development experience in building large scale distributed applications.
• Extensive Java development experience required as well as familiarity with some dynamic languages such as Ruby on Rails, Python, or Perl.
• Java 1.5 features, including annotations, generics, and enumerations.
• SQL, Database design, MySQL
• Expertise in AJAX, DHTML, XHTML, CSS 2.0, JavaScript 1.5, XML, and XSLT
• Experience building and operating highly efficient, dynamic, data driven, scalable browser based user interfaces and web applications
• Experience in software configuration management and change control
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent teamwork, analytical and problem solving skills
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
• Development experience on Linux as well as Windows platforms
• BS in Computer Science or comparable experience
• Experience with agile development
• Spring, Junit, Jmock, Maven, Ant all desirable.
• A desire to mentor junior developers and provide informal leadership to the rest of the engineering team.
