Position can either be located in San Diego or West Los Angeles.
The Principal UI Engineer will be responsible for the successful implementation of graphical user interfaces for company web sites. This role will require excellent practical skills in web development technologies as well as a good understanding of web site user interface design principles and practices. As an ideal candidate, you should possess strong skills with JavaScript, CSS, HTML/XHTML, DOM; real-world experience with AJAX and with frameworks such as Dojo, Prototype, Scriptaculous or YUI, experience working on lightweight UI/UEs with focus on usability, performance principles, and cross-browser development techniques; understanding of best practices for improving web performance. You will need to be an advocate for good design and have a passion and demonstrated experience in the UI development of products with multiple concurrent end users and large datasets.
Responsibilities Include:
- Produce and maintain clean, high quality, standards compliant code that adheres to design specification documents, conforms to user interface style guides, follows brand guidelines and meets established usability standards
- Collaborate with the Graphic Design and User Experience Teams to refine the user experience
- Partner with backend engineers to ensure successful implementation and integration of presentation tier with other tiers in web-based applications and communicate technical parameters and constraints to relevant teams.
- Develop functional design prototypes to demonstrate proof of concepts and to enable rapid iterative support for evaluative design research. *
- Measure and improve performance of web pages
Your qualifications include:
- 5+ years of web UI implementation experience, with the last 2 years focused in implementing consumer web UI along with demonstrated achievements in implementing consumer web or related user interface.
- Technical mastery of client side web user interface development technologies including HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML and AJAX (ability to hand-code a must).
- Practical knowledge of libraries and frameworks such as Prototype, Scriptaculous and YUI to develop dynamic web applications.
- Insight into cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility; ability to troubleshoot and solve complex inconsistencies.
- Knowledge of UI performance techniques; ability to investigate then design creative solution to common performance issues
- Second-nature attitude toward HTTP, FTP, navigating and organizing image directories, server hierarchies and related technologies.
- Experience with UNIX, Linux or equivalent system including secure shell or SSH and revision control systems such as SVN
