Seriously Clever .NET Wizard at Palladium Consulting Inc. (Houston, TX 77042)

Palladium is hiring again, proving that $100 oil is good for somebody, dammit! Here in Houston, the houses are cheap, the food is wonderful, the world’s oil is found, refined, and sold, and your next challenging job is waiting for you. My company writes custom scientific and business software for Big Companies who can afford the really cool toys.

Working for us is like working for a software company; we’re building long-lasting applications and platforms deployed to key technical users who can see underneath a mile of salt to find the next big oil field (from whence your car, your lipstick, your air travel): technical users who authorize hundreds of millions of dollars of drilling decisions, and who are just generally smart and wonderful people to work with.

The technology we work on has a bit of something for everyone: non-trivial usability questions (just how does one clearly design a user interface for specifying the boundary conditions of a multi-hundred-million year heat flow equation?), serious performance challenges (gigabytes for breakfast, linux clusters for lunch), software engineering challenges, and a user base the sun never sets on (want to make friends with someone in Indonesia?). You can play too if you are

- experienced, 5 years or so out of a computing, scientific, or engineering degree
- a good programmer, .NET is best, and especially on the web. We use ASP.NET, but value talent more highly than anything else: are you a Rubyist or Pythonista, or early on the F# bandwagon? The founder even has a soft spot for people who speak with a LISP. And of course there’s no end of back end programming
- familiar with GIS, if possible. all the world’s a big shiny map
- familiar with Oracle
- available to start after the holidays with a heart full of good cheer, a brain full of tricks, and a liver full of ambition
- in love with high performance code and big databases
- happy in a small, high-intensity team environment. we are told what is needed, not how to do it. on frequent occasions, we do the telling and travel the world doing so
- in Houston or willing to relocate here (did we mention the cool toys, cheap houses and great restaurants?)
