Hyves.net is a rapidly growing Dutch Social Network with approximately 5 million Members. Members can share messages, photo’s, tips and presence. Hyves was founded in 2004. The name ‘Hyves’ is derived from ‘beehive’, a place swarming with activity.

Hyves web-application
Hyves has developed the platform in-house with a team of 8 full-time developers.
The main application stack was made using LAMP. Hyves is running on PHP 5.2, with about 500k lines of code. Some of the libraries used include creole, propel and smarty. Besides PHP, Python is used for the chat platform.
Client technology includes:
- desktop browser version
- mobile client version
- desktop native client (used for notifications)
The website contains over 100 million photo’s, video’s and music files and serves over 100 million pageviews per day. The site runs on 1200 Linux servers.
Some projects
- Hyves is participating in Google OpenSocial, a new open API standard for sharing information between gadgets and social networks.
- Hyves is working on a new mobile client and a new desktop client

Requirements
- MSc Computer Science/Mathematics/Physics or equivalent
- at least 2 years of full-time experience in web development in one of the leading web-development environments. This may include Java, PHP, .NET, in combination with one of the leading DBMS systems such as MySQL, MS-SQL or Oracle. In addition, thorough knowledge of Linux and networking are required.
- proven affinity with large-scale dynamic websites
- familiar with design patterns, Agile programming and/or extreme programming
- Fluent English, both written and oral
- Being Smart, Getting Things Done
