This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic software developer to work on cutting-edge intelligent systems, such as decision support systems and reasoning tools or adaptive human/machine interfaces to support decision-making. You will design and implement a variety of AI algorithms and end-user interfaces in Java. You will work in small project-oriented groups with a principal investigator/scientist and a senior software engineer. You will also have the opportunity to attend conferences and have your work published.

We require a solid background in designing, programming, and documenting complex software systems on Windows and Unix/Linux, and five years of experience as a professional software developer. Candidates must have demonstrable experience with professional software engineering practices, reading/generating software specs, developing/executing test plans, and implementing software coding guidelines. Any first-hand experience with AI algorithms, human-computer interaction design, information visualization technologies, GIS, and decision support systems will be considered a strong plus. Familiarity with computer graphics, data mining, database management, and XML is also a plus. Candidates should have demonstrated capability to work independently and effectively within a team environment. Code and writing samples may be requested. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and therefore must meet requirements for access to classified information.
