The Softel Group is a dynamic technology supplier to the television broadcast and pro-video industries and is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help the group’s Research and Development effort. The successful candidate will be based in Pangbourne, near Reading, Berkshire. The Softel Group consists of three successful companies. Aston Broadcast has been supplying high-end broadcast News, Sports and other graphics systems to broadcasters since 1971. Softel Limited, founded in 1983 is a greatly respected source of solutions for interactive TV, Teletext & TV Text content management, video processing, and other key-niche areas. In recent times Softel has expanded into the processing and transcoding of metadata to run alongside video transcoding platforms. Softel-USA, a Californian company incorporated in 2001 is dedicated to supplying ancillary data solutions to the Americas, the company is also pivotally placed to take advantage of the interactive TV revolution which is set to sweep the US and Canadian markets.

Prime Responsibilities
• To drive the outline development of new technologies and software in a fast changing environment.
• To develop product architectures and solutions across a mix of broadcast technologies including compressed and uncompressed video formats for digital broadcast, digital TV transport streams, IPTV, web TV, DVD, content editing workstations, and back office web and database driven systems.
• To communicate industry trends and practices to the development group.
• Mentoring of junior development engineers is an important element in this role.
Desired Skill Set
• At least four years professional development experience preferably in a senior role
• Good communication & team leadership skills
• Strong C++ skills, with experience of Java/C#/Scripting/Web development a bonus
• A passion for coding well-architected solutions
• Organized and having good time management skills
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing requirements
