We have an immediate opening for a top-notch database developer to join our growing engineering team in our headquarters office in the West Loop of Downtown Chicago.
The position will focus on design and implementation of the data tier for a cutting-edge hosted ASP application that offers exposure to the very latest in data analytics technologies. The application is database intensive and built on a Microsoft SQL2005 backbone, utilizing the entire SQL2K5 technology stack — including the enterprise capabilities of the database server, Analysis Services for OLAP, SSIS for ETL and data integration, and Reporting Services for building reports. The successful candidate will be a member of the core platform team and responsible for the design and implementation of application and data tier functionality leveraging the above-mentioned technology components.
The ideal candidate is a software engineer with a solid computer science foundation, an analytical mind with good communication skills, and 5-7 years of professional experience. In addition, a solid background in relational database modeling and experience building database-intensive transactional applications is required. The candidate must be able to analyze SQL queries for performance bottlenecks and optimize such queries with a structured approach. Specific experience on the SQL2K5 platform is preferred, although consideration will be given to strong candidates with primary experience on the Oracle, DB2 or MySQL platform. Familiarity with OLAP concepts and OLAP modeling is a plus, but not a strict requirement for this position.
Demonstrated strong knowledge of the following is required
+ Relational database concepts and data modeling
+ Transaction processing concepts
+ SQL query execution fundamentals and query optimization principles.
Familiarity with the following is desired:
+ Experience building database intensive web applications in Java or .Net.
+ Data Integration and ETL Toolkits – SSIS experience preferred.
+ Analytical Schema design and OLAP concepts – familiarity with SSAS is a plus.
+ Advanced SQL skills on the SQL2K5 platform
Candidate should have:
+ Undergraduate degree or higher in Computer Science.
+ Minimum of 5 years and preferably 6-7 years of experience in building database applications, preferably in building web based software products.
+ Good communication skills and ability to communicate design intent outside code.
+ Ability to meet tight deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
+ Flexibility with work schedule as the changing pace of multiple projects and demands dictate.
