LOCATION
TrackAbout is run as a virtual organization with employees mainly in Chicago and Pittsburgh. Our development staff is completely virtual (no office) and each developer works from home.
ABOUT THE POSITION
We’re seeking a salaried, full-time (no contractors) developer with a minimum of 5 years of experience in web development, object-oriented programming and relational databases. You’ll be working on all aspects of the TrackAbout offering including our ASP.NET website and web services, MS SQL Server 2005 database and various wirelessly-networked mobile hand-held devices.
You will be responsible for building new features, enhancing existing features, and helping troubleshoot bugs. You may be occasionally asked to provide some second-tier technical customer support for requests that require deeper technical skills than our first-tier support reps can handle.
The members of our development team are dedicated to keeping up with the latest developments in techniques, technologies and tools related to software development. We take time out to share our knowledge with one another and improve both our skills and our development environment. We often experiment with new tools and adopt them into our standard environment. Just a few examples include our use of JetBrains ReSharper, CruiseControl.NET, NUnit and FXCop.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS
• Building web-based applications and web services
• Object-oriented programming fundamentals
• C# (VB.NET is nice-to-have, but we’re phasing it out), ADO.NET, ASP.NET 2.0
• HTML/CSS/Javascript
• Solid MSSQL programming skills (sprocs, udfs, triggers, indexes, constraints, etc.)
• XML/XSD/XSLT
• Experience with version control systems (we use Subversion)
NICE-TO-HAVES
• Experience with common OO design patterns
• Test-driven development and NUnit
• Mobile device development (Windows Mobile, CF.NET)
PERSONAL TRAITS
Since this is a work-at-home position, you’ll be expected to be able work independently and unsupervised, but with clear goals and direction. We’re results-oriented and we don’t micromanage.
You should have:
• Solid interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills
• A track record of providing reasonable estimates and sticking to them
• Insatiable curiosity, a love of learning and a desire to continuously improve
• Fanatical attention to detail!
EDUCATION
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS or related field

Will be market-competitive and commensurate with level of experience
