Gratis Internet is constantly pursuing new initiatives across our multiple business lines. It is not unusual for the company to identify an opportunity on a Monday and release a new product by the end of the week. We have an immediate opening for a PM to help us launch these products.
In addition to technical skills, the position requires the ability to analyze business requirements, document the needs of the company, and coordinate the rapid development of new software projects. Reports to the VP of Engineering.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
* Analyze, document, and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
* Interview colleagues in order to understand and document high-level business requirements.
* Coordinate features and delivery schedule using FogBugz, SharePoint, and any other tools you want.
* Evolve Gratis Internet’s software delivery lifecycle. Our current process is an amalgamation of GTD, Getting Real, the Agile Manifesto, Scrum, and XP. We’re waiting for you to leave your mark.
* Serve as a liaison between business and engineering.
THE REQUIREMENTS
* A thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle, the various development models, and the strengths and weaknesses of each. You should be able to give a ten-minute oral presentation defending Agile, Scrum, XP, Getting Real, or Waterfall. They all have pros and cons.
* The ability to participate in brainstorming, architecture, and implementation meetings with extremely technical employees and comprehend the underlying business requirements and technical architecture for a project.
* A background in web development. Although you will never be asked to program, an understanding of the technology you’re coordinating is essential.
* Demonstrated ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously. You may be working on five projects, each of which is due tomorrow and each of which is the company’s #1 priority. If the previous sentence makes you cringe, this probably isn’t an environment you’ll enjoy.
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
* Seriously fast typing. We have icepacks for your fingers if you need them.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a sense of humor.
THE PERKS
* Work at a company that pursues unconventional, emerging business lines.
* Work with cutting edge technology written by industry-leading talent.
* Great downtown location with convenient access to Metro, restaurants, and parking.
* Competitive salary, benefits, and equity.
Note that a PM is neither a programmer nor a manager. For more background on what a PM is and isn’t, see Steve Sinofsky’s 2005 essay, "PM at Microsoft".
