The Principal Engineer will, based on technology strategy developed by the group, analyze and evaluate media distribution platforms, consumer devices, and underlying technologies that may have significant impact on TWDC.
The position is based in Burbank and will report to Director, Emerging Technologies, The Walt Disney Company.
Overall Responsibilities:
•Perform hands-on evaluation of specifically identified technologies and distribution platforms, such as distribution network architectures, Internet services architecture, wireless distribution platforms, and rights management solutions in new consumer devices.
•Document the results of these evaluations and prepare adequate material to effectively communicate the results and the impact on the underlying technology strategy.
•Partner with different business units to support early pilots and assist in further evaluations when appropriate.
Work Experience:
•7 years professional experience in media related engineering and system architecture.
•Experience in the evaluation of new, emerging media technologies and devices.
•Understanding of how technologies are deployed in TWDC’s current businesses.
Skill set:
•Proven track record in engineering of digital media distribution platforms and consumption devices.
•Core expertise in a subset of the following areas: networking, media chipsets, rights management, media software, middleware, media production, media post-production, media distribution technologies (broadcast, broadband, wireless).
•Up to date in media consortia and standards, such as DVB and DLNA
•Demonstrated skills in completing media technology assessments
•Ability to communicate effectively and clearly technical analysis results.
Job-Related Education:
•Engineering or technical degree required. Master in Engineering is a plus.
