Pnika: Programmer Extraordinaire

Location: Montreal, Canada - Tele-Commute

URL: www.nimonik.ca

For you to know:

We are very much a fan of the Getting Real approach and we need to build out a working system very quickly, then progressively expand on functionality. There is no detailed spec sheet.

Our current system is found at www.nimonik.ca you can use the username trial@eem.ca and password 1234 to see the functionality it currently has.

We have mock-ups of what we want the system to be like, though these are likely to change. We will provide these to candidates down the road.

What we are looking for: We need a DDH. We need someone who is ambitious and talented to start this project out; if it works, there will likely be a need to build up a team over time. One major innovation we are looking at is to use a tagging or labeling system (as found in gmail) instead of a regular tree-structure for our data. Please indicate your knowledge of this strategy.

IN YOUR RESPONSE, PLEASE INCLUDE:

- 3 links to relevant projects you worked on (and – your capacity) (large interactive databases)
- Your expertise
- Your location

And

Your quick, straightforward suggestion on the platform (Joomla, Radiant, other ROR, Java, Python, mis of things, brand new CMS…)

Deadline for applications: June 10th
Interviews: June 10th-June 15th
Hire: June 20th
Launch date for first new iteration of new system: September 15th

EVEN MORE INFORMATION:

Our project is to take a (primarily) Coldfusion application which manages environmental regulations, explicative text, and other features and completely redo it into a B2B Web 2.0 Application. We want to create a very light program that allows companies to share information, questions, comments, ratings and other systems concerning environmental legal compliance in Canada. If our project is successful, you will have the ability to build and manage a team.

You should have proven expertise in large database web applications.
You should have an appreciation for simple, but amazing UI.
Know Ruby on Rails or be able to convince us it is not the right language.
You should love what you do.
Ideally, you should be based in Canada.

We have cash-flow, but we need to scale up.
You can tele-commute.

We have lots of crazy ideas and we need someone to make them reality.
