The Interaction Designer (IxD) position conceives, creates, and refines use cases, site maps, flows, wireframes, and interaction specification documentation for web based education, e-commerce, and content management products. The ID will work closely with product teams to gather and understand key business strategies and user needs, and to translate the strategies and needs into sound design concepts. The qualified candidate should:
Have experience with user-centered design techniques; be able to conduct various user research activities including usability testing, user interviews, focus groups, and contextual inquiry; and be able to work with a graphic designer to create user interfaces in a fast-paced development environment.
Assist in defining key user requirements in order to build usability into products and services
Collaborate with usability specialists, developers, and graphic designers to design and implement the user interfaces of various Pearson Education websites
Perform heuristic analyses of websites
Utilize user-centered methodologies to understand and analyze user experience, expectations and requirements
Participate in high-level use case definition, prototyping, and other activities to capture and develop user requirements and integrate these into the product design
Design and simulate user interface and interaction flow using wireframing tools
Write interaction specification documents to support designs
Requirements:
Familiarity with user-centered research, such as usability testing, contextual inquiry, and field interviews
Minimum 3 years dedicated experience in information architecture and/or interaction design for web sites and/or web applications
Extensive experience working in collaborative and disperse teams
Experience with requirement visualization and prototyping tools such as Visio or OmniGraffle
Familiarity with technical issues around web development and ability to work constructively with development teams, including but not limited to understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML, and various multimedia applications such as Flash
BA in a related field (interaction design, HCI, industrial design, information science, social sciences, etc.) and/or equivalent years of successful work experience
*Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills are a must.

This position requires the use of a computer keyboard and mouse as well as the ability to communicate via telephone to other departments. The position operates in a normal office environment and works out of the Indianapolis or Upper Saddle River office.
This position requires occasional travel.
