Optimor is looking for an experienced Engineer to build deep web crawlers and extract/organize relevant data sets. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an energetic tech start-up while working with a talented team of developers and mathematicians.
Optimor’s next generation comparison technology provides personalised and accurate recommendations to consumers, integrating state-of-the-art research in mathematical statistics by senior Oxford academics. We are an Oxford based start-up, funded by Europe’s leading early stage investors, The Accelerator Group, and the DTI.
Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and test deep web crawlers and associated information retrieval logic
• Find enthusiasm in analyzing the structure behind websites to resolve crawling complexities
• Coordinate and work with our other engineers and our leading mathematicians
Requirements:
• Expert Java Engineer and familiar with HtmlUnit web scraping technology
• Expert level familiarity with web technologies, including CSS, Ajax and Javascript
• Demonstrated experience in web scraping and web development – with product/project references
• Familiarity with information retrieval principles
Extras:
• Strong scripting skills in python
• Background in Machine Learning and data modeling
• Flash scripting
• Familiarity with an open source web framework, either Ruby on Rails or Django
