Summary
The Oregon Clinical & Translational Research Institute (OCTRI) – located on the Oregon Health & Science University’s South Waterfront campus in Portland, Oregon – is seeking experienced web application programmers. Qualified applicants will work full-time with the OCTRI Biomedical Informatics Program to develop AJAX-enabled web-based applications supporting clinical and translational research.

Qualifications

Applicants must have:
• Significant experience writing software using a major web applications architecture (e.g. Ruby/
Rails); significant experience writing and maintaining object-oriented Javascript (e.g. Prototype).
• A strong undergraduate computer science or mathematics background, and a proven ability to
apply these concepts in diverse environments. Applicants must have at least some exposure to
all of the following: algorithms, data structures, dynamic programming, functional programming,
lazy evaluation, graph traversal, sorting, searching, database systems, asymptotic analysis, and
computational theory.
• Experience writing and generating SQL on at least one major relational database platform. Ability
to create and understand DML employing correlated subqueries, directional joins, and aggregate
operations.
• Strong enthusiasm for the technology, tools, and methodology.
• The ability to write software without the aid of an integrated development environment, if required.
Applicants should have:
• Commitment to an open development methodology; experience in the free software community
preferred.
• Experience in a GNU/Linux or Unix environment; experience using Apache and common open-source
applications to host and administer web content.
• Proven ability to communicate effectively, both in person and in writing.
• Proven ability to reason spatially and inductively.
