We are currently seeking candidates for a Senior Web and User Interface Designer. As Senior Web and User Interface Designer, you’ll work with researchers, designers, usability professionals and developers to help create great user experiences on the web. You will work on the most exciting new web sites and services being developed by OCLC, including WorldCat.org which allows information seekers on the open web to find materials held in more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.
You must have a proven track record in using design to solve problems, balancing the needs of the end user with strategic business objectives. You’re able and excited to work with a global, cross-organizational team to develop user flows, conduct design research, design wireframes and visual concepts, and develop prototypes and finished web pages. This includes the ability to think strategically and communicate design rationale effectively to colleagues, product teams and management.
You will also have project management capability and the willingness to proactively lead the planning, design and usability testing for web projects. You will work with writers, translators and information architects to develop and manage a system of templates for content development and work with design management to ensure a consistent execution of the OCLC brand look and feel across web sites and other e-marketing tools.
Qualifications:
*Minimum of a bachelors degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Visual Communications or other related field
*5+ years’ experience in web site and interface design
*Must have expert knowledge of (X)HTML and CSS
*Must have a strong understanding of design principals and a portfolio demonstrating your skills
*Must have a strong knowledge of current user experience, usability, and accessibility standards and best practices and how to implement
*Strong working knowledge of XML, XSLT, JavaScript, DHTML, AJAX and ActionScript is a plus
*Must be proficient using Microsoft Windows-based web design software, including Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft Visio, Adobe HomeSite, and/or TextPad
*Relevant online marketing experience, with strong technical knowledge of website development and design
*Design project management experience and organizational skills
*Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and be proactive
*Strong problem-solving and creative-thinking skills
*Ability to engage stakeholders at various levels and champion large projects
*Web development skills and experience a plus (Java/JSP, ASP/.Net, PHP
