NY Times: UI/Front-End Developer,

Location: New York

The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and passionate web designer/developer for a new agile development team we are creating in the newsroom.

Think of this team as a startup within a large media company: As the key designer and front-end developer you’ll have an extraordinary amount of creative freedom to explore new ways of presenting news and information online. That means non-linear storytelling through maps, dynamic graphics, searchable databases, visualizations and other dynamic means of presenting the news and the stories behind the news.

The job requires good design skills and the ability to execute. The successful candidate must be fluent in a number of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS and Javascript. Experience with Flash/ActionScript and/or Ruby on Rails is a plus. Also critical is an attention to detail, a pride in the quality of one’s work and the ability to meet deadlines.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
- Expert-level CSS and HTML
- Advanced Javascript abilities and AJAX experience
- Thorough understanding of cross-browser, front-end development issues
- Deep understanding of the principles of web accessibility and user-centered design/development
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
