NY Times: Ruby on Rails Developer,

Location: New York

The New York Times is seeking a curious, creative and passionate web developer for a new agile development team we are creating in the newsroom.

Think of this team as a startup within a large media company: You’ll have an extraordinary amount of creative freedom to explore new ways of presenting news and information online. That means non-linear storytelling through maps, dynamic graphics, searchable databases, visualizations and other dynamic means of presenting the news and the stories behind the news.

The successful candidate must be experienced with one of the modern web development frameworks (preferably Ruby on Rails) and be able to develop a project through its entire lifecycle. Also critical is an attention to detail, a pride in the quality of one’s work and the ability to meet deadlines.

Salary commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:
– Minimum of 1 year experience with Ruby on Rails, Django, or a comparable web framework
– Knowledge of SQL and experience with MySQL
– Experience with benchmarking and tuning website and web application performance
– Experience working with Unix/Linux
– Familiarity with agile development approaches
– Experience developing and supporting APIs
