Job Description:
Director of Technology, Syndication and Mobile is responsible for the technical direction and leadership for MTV Networks’ mobile and syndication businesses. Works closely with business and product development organizations to evaluate strategic goals, and translate those goals into technical solutions that enable them to meet their commercial goals and obligations. Responsible for all technology supporting the Mobile applications as a stand-alone business, as well as integration of these applications and their components into other online and broadcast services (web sites, ringtone stores, music services, and broadcast graphics systems). Responsible for architecting, and implementing integrations with syndication partners. The Director works closely with the Platform Development team to guide the development of platform components on which this business relies, such as the Content Management System and Feeds Framework.
Responsibilities include:
• Overall responsibility for application development project plans for the mobile and syndication business areas. Approve scope of work, time and cost estimates, resource allocation, and identification of critical path activities and dependencies. Prioritize and balance workload between dedicated resources and those in Platform Development group.
• Hands-on involvement in architecting and developing mobile and syndication application solutions that share and extend shared components with the overall MTV Networks Digital Platform.
• Provide technical support for the Mobile & Syndication business unit on vendor/partner relationships and negotiations including technical designs, service level agreements, consulting costs, software licenses, etc.
• Responsible for leading coordinated activities of all IS&T departments (Software Development, Technical Production, ISG, Online Operations, and QA) in their efforts to support the Mobile and Syndication business unit.
• Identify resource requirements, both internal and external, for technical projects for the M&S business unit. Responsible for recruiting and hiring of development resources, and for sourcing development partners, with the help of the Director of Outsourcing.
• Overall responsibility for career development of staff.
• Keep abreast of ongoing technological developments within the Mobile Entertainment industry.
• Minimum 8 years experience in software development, with at least two years experience directing a development organization.
• Education: B.S. in Computer Science or Engineering, M.S. preferred.
• Industry experience in mobile technologies such as WAP, SMS, MMS, XHTML Mobile, BREW, as well as syndication standards such as RSS, MRSS, XML in general.
• Programming Languages: Candidate should be an expert in Java, XML/XSLT and generally capable in one or more scripting languages, such as Python or PERL.
• Process fluency: Familiarity with various software development processes (UML, RUP, Agile, Extreme, etc) and there areas of application.
• Solid time management skills, with proven ability to analyze and assign tasks, provide and/or verify work estimates, and manage the team’s time to keep development on schedule.
