Leapfrog Online is looking for web developers who want to work with Rails and other open source frameworks on a team that really does use Agile project management and pragmatic development methods.
Do you enjoy solving interesting problems with Ruby and the Rails framework? If so, you’re our kind of programmer and we’d like to talk to you. We offer competitive salaries and benefits, a close-knit team who like what they do, and free bagels on Fridays.
Individuals looking for full-time employment only, please. No recruiters, no off-shore, no contractors.
What’s it like to work here? First and foremost, we’re an Agile shop: we’ve adopted Scrum to manage all of our projects, and encourage Extreme Programming practices. We’re big on unit testing, keeping things simple, and delivering software in short sprints.
Our ideal Rails candidate has:
• Real-world experience using MVC frameworks to build high-traffic web sites and applications. While we don’t expect any graphic design skills from our developers, candidates should be well-versed in the world of HTML, CSS and Javascript/Ajax. Knowing how to developer RESTful applications is a big plus.
• No fear of SQL! We expect our software engineers to have non-trivial experience with any SQLbased RDBMS (PostgreSQL experience is especially useful) in the form of writing efficient SQL queries and executing them via programming language interfaces.
• A love of testing and test-driven development. You should know how to write standard Rails unit tests, or a specification framework like RSpec, test/spec, or Shoulda.
• Thorough understanding of common web and e-commerce concepts and technologies, such as: HTTP, SSL, XML and associated technologies, content management concepts, public-key cryptography, application and data security and privacy issues, basic TCP/IP networking. Experience producing and consuming web services (SOAP, REST, XML-RPC) is a big plus.
• Real-world experience with Agile engineering practices (test-driven development, object-oriented design, refactoring, DRY, YAGNI)
• Bachelor’s degree and/or 3-5 years experience relating to web-based software development using Ruby, Python or other languages.
