Mendeley enables scientists to manage, explore, share, and visualize their research. You can help us create the tools for that. We’re looking for a talented database architect to join us in Central London. Your task will be to administrate our *nix servers and optimize the existing MySQL database structure of our integrated desktop + web-based research network as well as to manage large tables with profile information and document metadata.

You should…
…have a degree in Computer Science or a related field (or convince us with past work)
…have strong database experience (in MySQL and/or PostgreSQL) and be able to write lightning quick SQL queries
…be experienced in *nix server administration
…know that replication is not only recreational, boyce-codd is not another fancy car and that partitioning is not only possible with your hard drive
…have strong analytical, performance, data modeling, design and architecture skills (low level system skills a plus)
…have good knowledge in PHP, JavaScript, and XHTML
…be keen on making the work of researchers & students more efficient and more fun

…contribute to the design and development of the database access layer
…ensure scalability and flexibility of the underlying data model of Mendeley Web and Mendeley Desktop
…optimize top SQL statements and undertake performance and security testing
