Industrial Designer at Microsoft Corporation in Seattle Metro Area

Do you want to help redefine the PC, the very device that brought computing to mass usage and that has enabled the growth of Microsoft? The PC |3 team is tasked with making computers more usable, enjoyable, emotionally satisfying, and consumer-focused. We are looking for an experienced Industrial Designer to help us in this mission.
PC|3 is a product-innovation group inside the Core Operating System Division (COSD). We develop the software tools, applications, and innovative solutions that integrate the latest hardware inventions with software to revolutionize the PC experience.
You will be joining a highly diverse, interdisciplinary, centralized User Experience team focused on redefining the experience of personal computing from a product development perspective, as well as supporting exciting new technology innovations. Working directly with internal software development teams as well as external PC manufacturers, you will be applying the latest infield research techniques to craft the next generation of computers, from all-in-one desktop PCs to handheld PCs.
As part of the PC |3 Design team, you will be responsible for bringing to the table strategic thinking, new concept generation, and production-ready design knowledge and experience. Strong CAD modeling and rendering skills coupled with excellent communication and presentation abilities are a must. You will provide the vital link between software and the hardware user experiences, delivering products to millions of people worldwide.
This job requires the following skills and experiences:
• 5-10 years of experience in designing consumer products for high-volume markets within a team environment (preferably consumer electronics products) and experience with managing designers on the same mission.
• Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills.
• A strong portfolio that demonstrates creativity, a range of design language fluency, technical proficiency, and user-focused design.
• Intrinsic passion for, and understanding of, seamless hardware/software integration.
• Strong interest in, and aptitude for, learning new technologies and manufacturing methods.
Ideally, you will also have these qualifications:
• Hands-on experience in a secondary field such as UI design, mechanical engineering, or package design is highly desired.
• Proficiency in all the typical design software (Alias/Pro-E/Rhino 3D/SolidWorks, Photoshop, and so on).
• Either an MA or MS degree in industrial design or a highly related field, or a BA or BS degree in industrial design with significant industry experience.
