Harvard College Library: Web Production Specialist

Location: Cambridge, MA

Founded in 1638, Harvard has a rich legacy of libraries that continues into the 21st century. The Harvard College Library (HCL), a system of ten centrally administered libraries among Harvard’s decentralized departmental and graduate school libraries, holds 11 million of the 15+ million collections of the University. Major holdings are in humanities and social sciences, sciences, fine arts, music, anthropology, poetry, film, maps, theatre, East Asian materials, government and international affairs, and rare books and manuscripts.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and part of an enterprising web production team, the Web Specialist is responsible for collaborating on graphic design projects; conducting staff training for software (e.g. Dreamweaver, Photoshop); performing general website maintenance and troubleshooting software issues; executing quality control measures; documenting web projects, policies, and procedures; tracking and analysis of usage statistics, and editing images for use in web, video, and print publications. This is a two-year term position with the possibility of extension.

Basic Qualifications:
BA or equivalent in a relevant field and 2+ years work experience in web production. Experience producing and validating HTML, CSS, JavaScript . Demonstrated graphic design skills. Experience using and troubleshooting authoring, design, and analysis/tracking software (e.g. Dreamweaver, Flash, Bridge, Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint, Sony Vegas, Sawmill). Experience editing images. Ability to import and export content/data from databases. Knowledge of sophisticated navigational structures and site architectures. Experience working in a Windows environment.

Must be a team player with excellent customer service skills. Outstanding attention to detail. Strong project management skills including setting priorities, working on multiple projects simultaneously, problem solving, delivering on expectations, and meeting deadlines. Flexible and adaptable to changing needs and priorities. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. Experience training staff a plus.
