Front-End Web Developer

If so, you may be just the Front-End Web Developer we’re seeking to join our team. We are a stealth startup, backed by some of the most respected and successful VCs in the world. The company is led by a proven management team that has been part of the some the biggest names in consumer internet and digital media successes (Electronic Arts, Yahoo, Macromedia, Excite). We are redefining the future of the consumer internet experience and will transform the way end users interact with a wide range of services and brands online.
This role demands an expert blend of clarity in vision, interface design, web development and creativity mixed with a high degree of effectiveness and execution. As part of this early-stage startup, you will wear multiple hats, with a third of your time spent working with team designing interfaces and the majority of your time developing and implementing them. Ideal candidates have a significant track record in creating or taking visual layouts of web applications, cut them up, and implement solutions in XHTML/CSS/DHTML/JavaScript. Separately, solid experience in online user interface designs, user interaction and visual design are all highly valued.

Responsibilities:
• Work closely with product management and art teams to help develop hi-fi/low-fi mockups of interfaces. In some cases you will develop the mock-ups, while in other instances you may implement a mock-up someone else has taken lead in designing.
• Code design mock-ups into usable HTML/CSS/Javascript/DHTML. You will work closely with a team of engineers, who also have front-end experience, as part of this effort.
• Identify ways to leverage these interfaces in new environments (e.g., 3D worlds)
• Be a thought-leader, providing technical guidance on how to leverage and incorporate typical and leading UI capabilities and technologies in a way that serves customers well, supports our overall scalability and deployment goals, and remains simple and clean.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
• 3-5+ years front end web development experience, preferably for consumer focused community, entertainment, or e-commerce products.
• Experience developing interfaces intended for high-traffic online destinations with users of variety of skills and levels.
• User Interface/User Interaction experience
• Solid cross-platform and cross-browser development experience.
• XHTML (Expert): must be able to hand-code valid, semantic and accessible markup.
• CSS (Expert): must be able to create clean table-less layouts using only CSS for presentation.
• HTML (Expert): Must know how to troubleshoot legacy table based layouts.
• PHP: Solid all-around expertise.
• JavaScript: (Advanced/Expert): must be able to validate a form, manipulate CSS via the DOM, hand-code from scratch.
• PhotoShop (Intermediate): Ability to manipulate and optimize graphics.
• Familiarity with SQL (Basic)
• Skills to integrate HTML/CSS front ends with backend systems — i.e. Experience integrating front-end pages to server-side technologies such as JSP.
• Understanding of Web Accessibility and Standards Compliance
• Passion for and pride in your work.
• Problem-solving, proactive, and smart thinking. If there is an issue with the spec, you will tell us before you code to it. You’re the kind of person who likes conceiving of a better way to do something, but who can compromise when existing technology interferes.
• Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills. Can set expectations and talk to the team about what you’re working on. Can explain why you did something a certain way. Able to give and receive feedback in a friendly and professional manner. Able to collaborate actively with others in a cross-functional team.
• Excellent organizational skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Efficient and flexible style, able to manage to aggressive deadlines.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, BS a plus.
