Quirky Summary

We’re looking for a full-time and on-site Junior Interactive Developer, which is a fancy term for "really great front end coder who wants to learn more about the back end."

You must have:

  • Fiery passion for the purest ideals of the web. ("The open web forever!")
  • Intimate knowledge of semantic and accessible HTML/XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript. (You will be quizzed.)
  • Intense love for sniffing out new web technologies or code libraries (and choosing them wisely, Indiana).
  • Extreme interest in getting hands dirty with PHP, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, Flex, and REST, all in an Apache+Linux environment.
  • Fatal attraction to superfluous adjectives

We expect you to be responsible and professional so that work gets done and we don’t have to babysit you. We also expect you to be a good communicator and laugh politely at our jokes, so we don’t have to hate you. Since this is a full-time and on-site position, bonus points if you have a wide variety of funny T-shirts.

If you’re willing to submit to a series of intense interrogations, assessment quizzes, and psychological experiments, send your resume/portfolio/whatever to: talent@wedontplayfair.com.

The Stuffy Version (well, stuffy by our definition)

The Junior Interactive Developer reports directly to the Senior Developer. The developer will work alongside a team of designers, copywriters, account managers and outside resources to develop creative solutions that meet our clients’ strategic interactive needs. The developer must, not surprisingly, have a good understanding of all interactive vehicles (Web, e-mail, multimedia, etc.) and – unlike other jobs out there – possess exceptional communication and organizational skills. You must be able to play nice with others and keep yourself productive when alone.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge / experience / aptitude in basic web technology including:
    • Browsers / operating systems
    • FTP
    • HTTP
  • High degree of aptitude in presentation layer development including:
    • XHTML
    • CSS
    • JavaScript
    • Image Processing (Photoshop, Fireworks, etc.)
  • Exposure to or a working understanding of:
    • XML
    • PHP
    • MySQL Queries
  • An interest in gaining proficiency in:
    • PHP
    • Flex
    • Ruby on Rails
    • MySQL Queries
    • MySQL Configuration
    • Web Services
    • Apache Configuration
    • Linux Configuration
    • Developing in the Mac OS X environment (not Windows)

Other Qualities:

  • Able to complete work without supervision
  • Conscientious and detail-oriented (if you noticed the redundancy of this one, that’s a start)
  • Outcome-focused on delivery of work
  • Takes ownership of issues and sees them through to resolution
  • A fast learner of new systems, tools, ideas, and business models
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Readily asks for and accepts help when needed
  • Ambitious person who wants to learn new system, processes, and production techniques
  • Analytically minded individual who can spot problems and their real causes
  • Ability to work in a team to solve more difficult issues
  • Professional on the phone and through e-mail (leave your emoticons at the door)
  • Desires to learn and build a valuable career
