Do you have what it takes to lead a significant area of a young and fast growing company? Modea, a rapidly growing interactive agency in Blacksburg is looking for a Director of Web Application Development to help grow our team.
We work exclusively with recognizable consumer goods manufacturers and retailers to provide interactive experiences that leverage the latest trends in the social Internet to enable our clients to interact with their customers in new ways.
This candidate will lead our team of talented programmers to create large scalable consumer-facing applications that will be used by millions of consumers. This candidate will scope, plan and architect applications that live two weeks to many years. The ideal candidate must have multiple years of web application programming experience in large and scalable systems and at least three years experience leading a team of developers.
We pride ourselves on providing an atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork in an environment that is second to none. This position is about adding structure, not about adding a layer of unneeded bureaucracy.

Responsibilities
Lead the Web Application Development team including schedule and resource allocation
Work with account managers, company management and clients to gather business requirements
Lead the architecting of applications including the creation of functional and software design specifications
Evaluate new technologies, methodologies, and open source projects
Participate in the evaluation and hiring of members of the Web Application Development team
Requirements
Demonstrated management experience of a team of ten or more developers
A burning entrepreneurial spirit and the determination to make a mark in the industry
The ability to handle tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
The motivation to stay on the forefront of new technologies and a willingness to learn and grow
A passionate curiosity about the Internet, pop culture, video games and technology trends
Previous experience in professional Web Development with strong and recent experience in PHP
Full knowledge of Object-oriented principles and expert knowledge of database architecture
Familiarity and use of MVC frameworks such as CakePHP or Zend or Ruby on Rails
Expert knowledge of the Linux environment and general experience in a Windows server environment
Familiarity with PHP, Java, .Net or other equivalent languages
You must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis.
