Position Summary:
The Director of Development directs, manages, and participates in the day-to-day operations of a team of software developers throughout the software development lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
Project Management / Development
Supervises and manages the development team and directs all day-to-day activities of that team to meet target delivery dates.
Ensures projects are completed on time and according to software specifications.
Serves as focal point for other departments on project status or other project information.
Reviews release planning documents and estimates resource requirements and project time frames.
Provides technical and professional leadership to software developers.
Participates in software development life cycle process.
Cross-Team Collaboration
Participates in product management function teams to help define product direction.
Assists product management with the analysis and prioritization of enhancement requests and the creation of functional specifications.
Assists product management with RFP’s, technical questions, and product questions.
Supplies quality assurance (QA) with a stable product, high-quality technical documentation, and dedicated personnel to support testing activities.
Collaborates with support on client issues that require development investigation and/or resolution.
Personnel
Determines staffing requirements.
Hires new staff and builds a strong team environment.
Guides, mentors, and grows highly skilled and effective software development personnel.
Delivers timely performance evaluations and provides career development paths.
Exercises managerial tasks concerning promotions, salary recommendations and terminations.
Allocates resources to development tasks.
Maintains and monitors effective and thorough communication among the software developers.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, MIS or other advanced technical degree. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in managing a software development team throughout all phases of the software development lifecycle.
Self-motivated with solid knowledge and experience with the software development life cycle. Excellent understanding of leading technologies and architectural designs, with a web development background being desirable. Excellent communication (written and oral), team-work skills, and negotiating skills. Ability to take initiative. Ability to identify, prioritize and execute tasks to meet critical project deadlines. Ability to work with minimal supervision, adhering to overall department and company procedures. Ability to work effectively across departments and to exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in dealing with various clients and staff.
