Development Manager at Veson Nautical (Boston, MA 02116)

As the Veson Nautical development manager, you will lead development of the world’s leading suite of maritime chartering software tools. You will manage development processes and planning, and oversee the day-to-day activities of a talented and flexible team of developers, and use your technical expertise to conduct code review and contribute directly to the programming effort. As a key member of the Veson Nautical team, your technical insights will contribute to our architectural vision, and it will be your responsibility to translate that vision into a technical roadmap that advances the industry leading position of our products. You will work closely with the product manager, project managers, and the technical team to guide Veson Nautical’s software products within the market. Exceptional coding, project management and communication skills are required for this position.

Responsibilities
- Work closely with project/product managers and staff to define aggressive but achievable development schedules
- Plan, assign and track all development activities to maximize team productivity and consistently meet milestone commitments
- Actively develop new features, products and frameworks (approximately 25% of role)
- Refine and manage the development processes to ensure product quality, consistency and team productivity
- Provide technical insights and vision that contributes to the evolution our technology roadmap
- Translate functional specifications into designs that meet customer needs and advance roadmap objectives
- Communicate with project managers to understand clients’ functional and schedule needs
- Mentor and coach developers
- Maintain and enhance the structural backbone of the industry’s leading maritime chartering software platform

Technology
Currently, Veson Nautical products are built primarily with C++, C#, JavaScript, xhtml, AJAX and CSS.

Requirements
- Exceptional coding and design skills, proficiency in C++
- 8-12 years experience actively developing software
- Passion for coding and software development
- Experience leading technical employees, meeting deadlines and successfully delivering quality applications to customers
- Able to quickly establish credibility with smart developers
- Proactive, positive approach to work
- Highly organized, reliable and diligent
- Experienced with web technologies (HTML, PHP, XML, etc.)
- Hands-on knowledge of development methodologies and code management systems
- Ability and eagerness to learn new languages and business environments quickly and effectively
- Able to fit in well within an informal, fast-paced environment and to provide hands-on management
- Legal right to work in U.S.
