MyHappyPlanet.com is one of the fastest-growing startups in Cambridge, MA. We are in the social network / language education space, and we are now looking for a CTO / Director of Engineering as a key addition to our management team.
After releasing our closed beta version 5 months ago, we quickly grew to over 80,000 registered users. If you’re looking for an exciting startup opportunity, this is a great opportunity for you to help shape an ambitious startup that will transform the $100-billion language education market.
If you become our CTO / Director of Engineering, you will build and manage a team of developers, you will become an integral part of the management team, and you will be compensated with an exciting mix of cash and equity.
As our CTO / Director of Engineering, your responsibilities will be to:
• Recruit an outstanding team of highly talented web developers and designers
• Manage the internal development team as well as external contractors
• Manage the development process and release schedule
• Mentor the developers, define development methods, and share best practices
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical recommendations
• Implement and oversee a scalable server / hardware infrastructure
• Provide technical vision for future product features
• Work with Marketing/Product Management to enhance the user experience
We are looking for someone with:
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Experience managing a development / design team in projects with tight schedules
• At least 5 years of web development experience, preferably experience in social networking sites
• Strong focus on user experience, design, and usability
• Experience creating web applications that scale for hundreds of thousands/millions of users, ideally in PHP or Ruby on Rails
• Experience implementing web interfaces using XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and AJAX
• Excellent communications, presentation, and writing skills: must be able to articulate complex technical concepts in simple terms to audiences of varying technical acumen
• Interest in working in a fast-paced startup environment
• Passion for travel and/or languages is a plus
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
