As a member of the ILR Web Studios development team, act as the primary User Experience Designer for web-based products, with an emphasis on the design and production of public web sites and of web application user interfaces. The successful candidate will participate in team development initiatives and lead the user centered design process to add new functionality to web sites and applications.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Act as primary information architect for sites and data sets.
- Conduct user research, including user observation and interviews to understand audience goals, culture, and capabilities; heuristic evaluation and user testing to assess the usability of web products and participants’ success in completing identified tasks; and other forms of testing to gather data on general use patterns.
- Design, produce, and/or procure graphic elements for web projects.
- Build and maintain relationships and clear communication with clients, and ensure their active participation in the requirements analysis, conceptual design, and production and testing phases of project plans.
- Assist with identification, collection, evaluation, and preparation of content for new and existing sites.
- Supervise and evaluate the work of production assistants.
Bachelor’s degree; more than 1 year and less than 2 years experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership to direct reports and others as necessary.
Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people; work effectively with diverse groups one-on-one and in team environments.
Demonstrated ability to manage short and long term projects/timelines while being sure that identified deadlines and schedules are met.
Demonstrated research and analytic skills and the ability to make research findings actionable, drive research proposals and facilitate brainstorming sessions.
Prior experience in designing extremely usable, consumer-oriented web-based interfaces and the life-cycle of web software development.
Must possess artistic/creative skills necessary to design, evaluate, and produce professional, compelling, user-friendly Web interfaces for a variety of clients.
Ability to create code templates from design comps of web sites for deployment through content-management system.
Demonstrated experience with multiple user research methodologies including contextual interviews and field studies and experience planning and conducting usability studies and qualitative research.
Respond constructively and sensitively to differing artistic sensibilities.
Some familiarity with the architecture and standard practices of web application deployment (e.g., web server and server-side scripting environments, database servers, browser behaviors, and web standards such as XHTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in human-computer interaction, visual design, and/or information science or related field preferred. Prior supervisory experience.
- A demonstrated knowledge of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX and Flash, Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator, and of the Windows XP Operating System. Proficiency in creating functional comps using dynamic client-side technologies (e.g., JavaScript, Ajax, Flash/Flex).
