Major Responsibilities / Project:
Cars.com, a top-tier online destination for automobile shoppers and sellers, seeks an experienced and passionate user experience professional to join our growing user experience team.
The User Experience Manager will collaborate with a cross functional team of designers, product managers and front-end developers to create an effective, user-centered online experience. They will manage the user experience for Motherproof.com and PickupTrucks.com, two web sites within our emerging businesses product group.
This position will offer broad exposure across Cars.com and excellent advancement opportunities.
In this role you will:
• Serve as a user advocate on all projects.
• Develop a deep and detailed knowledge of your products and their users.
• Collaborate with product managers to conceptualize new products and site features based on business needs and product goals.
• Elicit and define user interface requirements, including use cases, user stories, page flows, task analysis, wireframes and web site copy that communicate and achieve product goals.
• Work with web designers and front-end developers to ensure graphic design and interaction is consistent with user interface requirements and usability best practices.
• Lead and manage product releases, including user acceptance testing.
• Track and analyze user-behavior metrics; define new metrics when necessary.
• Help plan and support user research, including usability testing, A/B testing, surveys, persona development and focus groups. Analyze results, recommend and execute appropriate product/interface changes.
• Participate in or lead business and functional requirements gathering as needed.
• Offer creative solutions to product-related design/usability challenges.
• Expose site usability problems.
• Project manage smaller-scale initiatives, including bug fixes and minor enhancements.
Experience / Education / System Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
At least five years experience as a user experience manager, interaction designer, information architect, web product manager or similar role. Direct experience with e-commerce, online classifieds, online data-reporting or large-scale web application development initiatives is an attractive plus for this position.
Necessary Skills, Abilities, and other Qualities:
• Well-versed in web-based information architecture, user-centered design best practices and web technologies.
• Experience creating and using visual communication tools including wireframes, site maps and page workflows.
• Comfortable communicating with, presenting to and taking input from a variety of people, including customers, peers and management.
• Ability handling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; experienced and comfortable wearing many hats.
• Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Previous experience participating in or conducting user research.
• Strong relationship-building skills.
